This time I invite you, dear reader, to come along for a little virtual tour to the Northern part of the South Island, the breathtaking Tasman Bay area. We will visit the surroundings of Motueka and Kaiteriteri. Excited? Me so much! :)
Where green mountains and turquoise green-blue sea meet in such a sweet embrace. Where colours of the nature are so vivid and energising, yet everything so peaceful and calming. Where the golden sandy beaches reflect the warm glimmering sunshine. Where playful waves wash the shores and happy seashells, long and round alike, travel along the tide. Where puffy white clouds paint the sky pink with the setting sun. Where your body and soul refreshen with the warmth and positive energies of our Earth. Oh, I sometimes wish I was a poet. There are simply no words to describe the beauty one can experience in this part of the world… Let the pictures speak to you. Nature at its best! :)
Kaiteriteri beach. A little piece of paradise... I like to call it Turquoise Tasman Bay :)
A moment of contemplation as the waves gently make their way. A smooth, soothing music to the ears. As the water fills up the bay with the incoming tide. As the pieces of sand crack under your feet. As the shells rub against each other. As the soft breeze brings the salty smell of the sea to your nostrils.
My favourite shell perspectives - one of the mini projects I am currently working on with all my heart. It gives me so much joy to hunt for the treasures of the sea, and use them as my top models - if you, too, like shells, you might want to pop back and check my upcoming posts... :)
Probably not only one of the best beaches, but also one of the best places in the world to go kayaking. Various kayak trips and boat cruises leave from this bay to discover the amazing Abel Tasman Natural Park and its golden beaches. If you happen to be a mountain person though, no problem, the Kahurangi National Park has some great hikes to offer, too. Both a big favourite of both locals and tourists.
Oh yes, that Kiwi "joie de vivre" - I just can't stop smiling at these absolutely unique lifestyle moments, such as taking the well-loved sofa to the beach... :) I couldn't believe this can really happen when I read about it somewhere, but now I saw it with my own eyes! Truly New Zealand... :)
Kaiteriteri is so beautiful, mystical and magical at the same time. No wonder it is a favourite holiday destination for locals and tourists alike. There is a little pathway up the hill to a viewpoint leading you through an evergreen forest. While climbing up, the last rays of the sun pour right in between the branches, while you peek out and watch the moonrise over the bay. Breathtaking.
To top the romantic sunset mood of your dreams, ducks swim by while you watch the sky turn pink with style. Have I told you my favourite colour is sunset? :)
After reconnecting with nature, it's time to reconnect with people, too. :) You couldn't find a better place for that than the Sunday Market in Motueka, the apple and kiwi picking paradise of the country, and one of the central spots of the region. There are plenty of orchards along the roads, and many many fruit pickers in the season. Horticulture is very important here, and you can find a lot of tasty organic vegges and fruits on the stands. As well as local art and craft, and yummy local food to satisfy your belly after all the adventures of hunting for a perfect souvenir :)
I loved the friendly market vibe and the small town atmosphere, and was lovely to chat with the locals, to get to know some of their products, how they were made by hand, for example these cozy, all natural pillows or the recycled blue baskets hand woven by women from Vanuatu.
Spring in full blossom. The trees are just beautiful, bringing you the colours of the rainbow. This light greenish flower for example was just so fascinating, had to go close not to mistake it with leaves of "just a regular" tree. I wonder what is it called? I learned that the yellow one below in the Port is called the Kowhai and it is often referred to as the national flower of New Zealand and a welcome prelude to spring. :)
I love to feel spring in the air. Watch it grow, green, blossom, fulfil.
New beginnings. New energies. New horizons. Life.
