Today we got cultural and upon the invitation of a lovely friend, we seized the moment and headed to Aotea Square, to Aotea Centre, one of the most well-known arts and events centres in the heart of Auckland city. To peek into the Pan Pacific Youth Harmony Festival. :)
Barbershop. A Cappella. Expressions I familiarised with on a deeper level today. Harmony singing without any instruments accompanying the chorus. Groups of young people dressed alike on stage, performing, acting, and most importantly, singing together. And actually having a blast in the meantime.
It was amazing to see it. To hear it. To witness it. Fascinating melodies. And the sound of music created by the diversity of the voices. Beautified with the expressions on their faces. Worth a thousand words. I found Pan Pacific Harmony's mission statement quiet thoughtful and forward looking: "Our mission is to provide opportunities for young people to develop confidence, leadership, creativity and resilience through the joy and practice of harmony singing." Looking at and listening to these performances, as well as the inspiring speech given by one of the participants about the amazing advantages of being part of a choir and having music in your life made me realise the power of singing again. And instantly felt like joining a chorus again. :) That singing doesn't have to end by the end of high school. That you can join a choir whenever and wherever you are, just for fun. That singing frees your soul. That singing together is connecting with people. And connecting with yourself. That singing is a way to express yourself. A way to speak up. And to speak out. Therapeutic. The fingerprint of your soul. :) That singing relaxes, calms the mind - think lullabies... You breathe. Into your chest and even deeper to your belly. You tune in... Speaking of tune... or out of tune. Doesn't really matter for now. Out of tune? So what? Sometimes it's good to get out of tune to find the right tune afterwards. No opposites without each other, right? :) Singing in the shower. Under the rain. Getting lost in the moment. Experiencing your beautiful and unique voice. So when are you going to sing like a bird again? ;) ***Got inspired? So happy if you share ;)
