Today's Binspi: a true gem from a well-known Spanish poet, Antonio Machado. And the beautiful metaphor of the road we walk, the road we take, the road leading through life. Our life. With our own footprints. Our decisions. Our path. With all the amazing and rich experiences we gain by walking. While walking. Constantly learning from every step we take. We can and sometimes will follow others, but it is still going to be our own path. With all its beauties, responsibilities and consequences. We are in charge.
"Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar." I find the original Spanish version the most breathtaking and most expressive, but here are some translations for those who don't speak Spanish to reflect somewhat its message and feelings. Hope you enjoy!
These lines are actually fragments of a collection (no. XXIX) called "Proverbios y cantares" in "Campos de Castilla" from the beginning of the 20th century.
And the reflections above are some of my own reflections on what this timeless poem means to me. What does it mean to you?
And the New Zealand connection. Cows. Keep walking...
