Nothing can beat Nelson on a sunny day. The beautiful setting of the city, right between the hills and the sea. The historic neighbourhoods, those pretty wooden houses, that bring back glimpses and memories of the past. Still preserved, stunning heritage villas that make this place quite special and unique, all around New Zealand. And now, I have to say, nothing beats Nelson on a beautiful sunny autumn day. Autumn brought even more colours and warmth to this magical little city on the top of the South Island. Here are some of my favourite pictures. Are you ready for a walk in the sunshine? :) Let's start with the historic neighbourhood around the Fairfield House... hidden gems from the past, nested between the trees, dressed to impress. The Fairfield House, built in the 19th century, was originally a residence of the Atkinson family, then a boarding house for Nelson College. Today it serves as a community house, hosting various events and activities. Happily it was saved by a community group from demolition and restored, preserving a piece of the country's heritage. The picture on the right shows the observation tower. Not a bad spot to watch the stars, and it has an amazing view over the city. Just a couple of blocks away, some pretty facades on Trafalgar Street. And those real autumn moments with some lovely grapes. Then, a short trip to Fairfield Park and one of Nelson's first cemeteries, dating from 1851. It was closed completely for burials in 1910, now a place to remember. Some of the graves are hidden between heritage trees. There is something magical about cemeteries in autumn... Next stop: Melrose House, one of the most beautiful historic homes of Nelson, also dating from the 19th century. A stunning white building in the middle of an amazing garden, full of beautiful plants and flowers. Definitely worth to visit inside, too. It's a popular spot for weddings! Take a really nice virtual tour here. And to finish off, why not have a little treat at the Cafe? Cakes, sweets, drinks, all accompanied by lovely flowers. It's High tea time! :) Hope you enjoyed the tour. Next time, I'll be back with some amazing autumn vibes from the Maitai Valley!
